Who we are

Free Mind Hive is a Christian and community-based peer-led non-profit organization that exists to create a society where mental health and trauma are understood, addressed, and healed. We recognize the pervasive impact of mental health challenges and trauma on individuals, families, and communities, particularly among children, youth, and their families.

Many people suffer in silence due to stigma, lack of awareness, inadequate support, and limited access to resources. These barriers prevent individuals from seeking the help they need, perpetuating cycles of trauma and mental health issues. Free Mind Hive aims to break these cycles by fostering a trauma-informed and mentally healthy society.

As a faith-based organization, we believe in the power of God’s love and grace to bring healing and transformation. Our peer-led approach ensures that those we serve are empowered to lead their own healing journeys, supported by a compassionate community that understands their experiences.

We focus on the most vulnerable, especially children and youth, recognizing that early intervention and support can transform lives, restore hope, and build stronger, healthier communities. Our vision is not just to address mental health issues but to create a culture of understanding, support, and resilience where everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered to heal and grow.

Our History

Free Mind Hive (FMH) was established by Sarah Tushemereirwe Twine and her mother, Monday Edigold, drawing from their deeply personal and transformative experiences with mental health. Sarah, a 31-year-old mental health advocate and motivational speaker, began her journey with mental health challenges at a young age. Diagnosed with a mental disorder at 12 and starting medication at 14, Sarah faced a complex array of issues, including low self-esteem, paranoia, depression, bipolar disorder, bulimia, and severe suicidal tendencies. Her experiences with self-harm, including drug overdoses, cutting, and attempting to jump from moving cars, underscored her profound struggles.

These experiences, while intensely painful, have imparted Sarah with invaluable insights into the impact of trauma and the importance of mental health care. Her journey through these trials has equipped her with a unique understanding of the effects of stigma and the significance of trauma-informed care.

FMH, inspired by Sarah’s resilience and the supportive role of her family, is dedicated to promoting mental well-being through a trauma-informed lens. The organization focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment where individuals can learn to cope with stress and overcome trauma. FMH emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing the impact of trauma, fostering healing and resilience, and challenging stigma.

By encouraging people to Speak Up and share their stories, FMH aims to create a healthier world where trauma is acknowledged, healing is supported, and every individual is empowered to rise above their challenges. Through this approach, FMH is committed to building a compassionate community that understands and responds to the needs of those affected by trauma.
